The Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve (Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Abaroa) is located in the far southwestern region of Bolivia on an altitude between 4200 and 5400 meters (14000 and 18000 feet). We from PERK think it is one of the most precious natural wonders on the world—the starkly beautiful barren landscape holds snowcapped volcanic peaks, hot springs and geysers, is home to high altitude deserts reflecting Salvador Dali’s surreal paintings, and the reserve hosts diversely mineral-stained colored lakes that support great populations of flamingos, of which three are endemic species. Our visual diary is a journey through this amazing and remote area.
